Former US president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he has not spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since late July. "I expect I might be talking to him, but I haven't since then," Trump said during a news conference in Bedminster, New Jersey.
His comments followed reports suggesting that Trump and Netanyahu had discussed the war on Gaza and the current ceasefire deal in a phone call on Wednesday. However, Netanyahu's office denied any such conversation.
Trump confirmed that he last met with Netanyahu for two and a half hours at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on July 26, a day after Netanyahu's meetings with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C.
When asked if he encouraged Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire deal, Trump responded, "No, I didn't encourage him. You know, he knows what he's doing. I did encourage him to get this over with… But have victory, get your victory, and get it over with. It has to stop. The killing has to stop."
