1 dead and 6 missing after a luxury yacht capsized off the coast of Sicily, Italy, the country's fire department and rescuers said.

The yacht sank early Monday morning. The 56-meter (183-foot) long yacht was flying a British flag and four British nationals were among the missing, the BBC reported, citing Italian media.

Also among the 22 aboard the yacht were 12 passengers and 10 crew, some of whom were of American and some of Canadian origin. Emergency services personnel rescued 15 people, including a one-year-old child.Eight of those rescued are being treated at local hospitals, the Italian Coast Guard said.

According to local media reports, the yacht sank in a heavy storm last night. Its wreckage has been detected at a depth of 50 meters under water, said the fire brigade. Divers are searching for the missing.

The body of one of the victims was found outside the wreckage. It is not yet known which country he is a citizen of.
