Hamas wants cease-fire agreement plan based on Biden's proposal
Hamas has called on mediators to present a plan based on previous proposals instead of trying to find a new ceasefire deal for Gaza.
Such a call came from Hamas a few days before the talks proposed by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.Al Jazeera news.
In a statement on Telegram, the group said it wanted a plan based on US President Joe Biden's May 31 ceasefire proposal. On May 6, Qatar and Egypt presented a proposal for a cease-fire agreement based on the framework of Biden's proposal.
The May 6 proposal was previously accepted by Hamas. But Israel rejected it. The proposal guarantees the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza as well as an unspecified number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
The Hamas statement on Sunday said that instead of a new proposal, the mediators should force Israel to accept the May 6 proposal. The new proposal will hide the aggression of the occupiers and give them more time to continue the genocide against our people.
Hamdah Salhut, a journalist of Al Jazeera from Amman, the capital of Jordan, said that the Israeli media is saying that this statement by Hamas is a complete rejection of the ceasefire talks.
He said, however, the Hamas statement did not say that. The group is only calling on the mediators to keep the original proposal under discussion, to which they agreed.
