Talks underway to resolve Gaza ceasefire hurdles: US
The US National Security Adviser claimed that the cross-border war between Israel and Hezbollah had no effect on the Cairo talks.
U.S. National Security Adviser John Kerby said talks in Cairo, Egypt, to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza are still ongoing and progressing.

Speaking to reporters in a virtual briefing, Karbi rejected allegations that ceasefire talks had broken down, saying the talks were "constructive", Reuters reported.

He said that US President Joe Biden's top aide on Middle East affairs, Brett McGurk, is participating in this discussion.
He said that discussions will continue at the working group level for the next few days to resolve the remaining issues on specific issues.

Among the issues the working groups will address is the exchange of Hamas hostages and Palestinian prisoners, Kirby said.

He further said that how many hostages can be exchanged, their identity and possible time of release, all this has to be settled through detailed discussion.

Iran has commented that the attack by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has shown that Israel has lost its deterrence and that the strategic balance in the region has shifted against Israel.

Iran said this after Hezbollah's attack on Israel on Monday. On Sunday morning, Hezbollah fired hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel. Meanwhile, Israel's military said it had carried out about 100 militant airstrikes in Lebanon to prevent a major attack.

It was one of the biggest attacks in more than 10 years of border fighting. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani wrote in X, "Despite the full support of countries like the United States, Israel has not been able to determine the time and place for a limited and planned response to the Axis powers of resistance. Israel has lost its immunity.”

Hezbollah has fired its drones and rockets at 11 Israeli military bases and barracks in retaliation for the Israeli military’s killing of its commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut in July.

The development comes as no sign of progress in mediation talks for a ceasefire in Gaza took place, according to Reuters.

Hezbollah fired 320 rockets at the Israeli base

Both the Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah and Israel have announced large-scale military operations against each other.

A Hezbollah statement said that they launched several explosive drones targeting important military sites in Israel.

The group said it fired more than 320 Katyusha rockets at 11 Israeli military bases and barracks, including Israel's Meron base and four areas in the occupied Golan Heights.

In response to the threat, the Israeli military launched premeditated attacks on targets in Lebanon. The IDF announced the attack early Sunday morning.
