প্রায় ২২ ঘণ্টা পর গাজী গ্রুপের টায়ার তৈরির কারখানায় দেওয়া আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে এসেছে বলে জানিয়েছেন ফায়ার সার্ভিস অ্যান্ড সিভিল ডিফেন্স।

সোমবার সন্ধ্যা সাড়ে ৭টার দিকে কারখানা ভবনের সামনে সাংবাদিকদের দেওয়া এক ব্রিফিংয়ে ফায়ার সার্ভিসের পরিচালক লেফটেন্যান্ট কর্নেল রেজাউল করিম বলেন, “আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে এলেও পুরোপুরি নেভানো যায়নি৷ পুরোপুরি না নেভা পর্যন্ত ফায়ার সার্ভিসের কার্যক্রম চলবে৷”

রোববার রাত ৯টার দিকে কারখানাটিতে আগুন দেয় দুর্বৃত্তরা৷ তার আগে দুপুর থেকে কারখানাটিতে হামলা চালিয়ে লুটপাট করা চলে৷
সোমবার সকালে ফায়ার সার্ভিসের পরিচালক রেজাউল করিম সাংবাদিকদের জানান, রোববার রাত ১০টা ৩৫ মিনিটে আগুনের খবর পান তারা৷ যানজটের কারনে ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছাতে ১১টা ৪০ বেজে যায়৷ তারপর থেকে তারা অগ্নিনির্বাপনে কাজ শুরু করেন৷

সন্ধ্যার ব্রিফিংয়ে তিনি বলেন, “সন্ধ্যা ৭টা ৫ মিনিটে আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে এসেছে। এই আগুন পুরোপুরি নেভাতে আরও সময় লাগবে। তবে আগুন আর ছড়াবে না বলে আশা করছি। যেহেতু টায়ার তৈরির কাঁচামাল ও রাসায়নিক অত্যন্ত দাহ্য, সেই কারণে আগুন নেভাতে সময় লাগছে।”

এ সময় নিখোঁজদের তালিকা প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চাইলে লেফটেন্যান্ট কর্নেল রেজাউল করিম সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, “ভিকটিম লিস্ট তৈরির দায়িত্ব স্থানীয় প্রশাসন ও পুলিশের৷ আগুন নির্বাপন করাই আমাদের প্রথম দায়িত্ব৷ ভিকটিম লিস্টের দিকে আমাদের নজর নেই৷ আমরা সকাল পর্যন্ত ১৪ জনকে জীবিত উদ্ধার করেছি৷ তাদের স্বজনদের নিকট পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছি৷”
